Usage of 1 & 2 Cent coins in your country

Post by Muppetshow »

Hi folks
I'm really interested in how cash payment works in countries wich have recently banned 1 & 2 Cent coins from circulation or at least don't produce new small Cent coins.
So if you are from Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Italy or the Netherlands - please tell me if these coins are still used

In Netherlands they are not used, prices are still in cents, only the final amount is rounded when you pay.
So on average it will not cost you anything extra, as long as we still have 5 cent coins.
In fact you can have some profit, when you see the final amount should be rounded upwards you can pay electronical.....

BE 1 and 2 cent are still accepted but it will chance the price will be rounded up to 5 or 10 so the 1 and 2 cent will disappear

Trash in portugal. To fill pots forever, they receive but no one pays with them, turns out to be wasteful, and the state always making millions of coins.

I have heared that the major part of 1 and 2 Cent coins in Portuguese circulation dedicates from Ireland.
Is that true and if so do you know if they came there by tourists or were imported by the state or some bigger banks in your country?

In Ireland, they are already phased out, like how luit describes above in the Netherlands.

Right from 2002, 1&2c coins felt useless, people were just leaving them at home in jars. Then in 2008, Ireland contracted Finland (who were phasing out these coins) to deliver 100million 1c & 80million 2c coins.... Before eventually phasing them out recently.

Yes is true because when i visited portugal i have see in circulation 1 and 2 euro cent from Ireland.
In Italy last issued of 1 and 2 euro cent is year 2017 also if these coins are in circulation with a recent law, rounding up or down can be done
