Malta 2016 BU sets - incl CC with wrong mintmarks

Malta 2016 dated BU sets were issued on 22nd August

To our big surprise, when opening these BU sets from their shrink wrap plastic, we found several BU sets with
the 2 euro CC Ggantija with the wrong mintmark.

The 2 euro CC in the Official BU set 2016 was supposed to have the "special Maltese mintmark" = the letter "F" in the star at "6 o'clock"

The Ggantija in our sets has a different mintmark = the Monnai de Paris Cornucopia and Pentagon. (And NO "F"-mark)

We went to Central Bank of Malta. They confirmed that our sets are "faulty production". They confirmed, that these sets should not exist.

This 2 euro CC, with Cornucopia and Pentagon markings, is exclusively reserved for the coincards ONLY.
The coincards, that are not yet even issued !! They will be issued in September.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, that the dated set has the "F" mark on all coins - 1 c - 2 euro - as well !
The same applies for both versions of the BU.

Hi

That is interesting to know, I wonder how many of the wrong mintmark sets there are.

Will the coins for general circulation (including the commemorative 2 euro) have no mintmarks? That will be the first time a coin has had three different versions if so!

Definitely there will be three different versions, and they are approved by EBC.
